Dr. Harry N. Bixler, 82, native of Saint Clair, PA, son of Roy and Edith Padfield Bixler, died in New York City, his home for over 60 years. Dr. Bixler was a well-known and award winning educator,
curriculum innovator, arts lecturer, and world traveler, leading many tours through Europe and the Middle East.
Receiving his BA from Penn State, MA from Columbia University, and PhD from New York University, he taught in the Mathematics Department of Baruch College (CUNY) where he created the
interdisciplinary study of Mathematics in Islamic Art and Architecture, the subject of his doctoral dissertation. At Madison Square Garden in 1979 Bixler was presented The Presidential Excellence
Award for Distinguished Teaching.
He lectured in museums and universities around the country, including New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, designing curriculum and conducting workshops there for many years.
A devoted Manhattanite, Bixler spent mostly every evening with friends and colleagues at dinner, attending theater, concerts, opera, films, cabaret, and other cultural events. He valued his
friends above all else, and they are likely to remember him fondly, as a happy, warm, and generous person.
He is survived by nieces Amanda, Jenny, Skylar Clark in Big Fork, MN, a nephew James Kopke in Carol Stream, IL, and three generations of cousins in many parts of the U.S.A., England and
Wales.

Harry was privately interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Saint Clair, PA on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. James H. Evans Funeral Home, Inc., Saint Clair, PA was entrusted with arrangements.
